Instructions

We have created 3 guides to help you on your way.

Ironing instruction:

1. Create your pattern
Create your design by placing Hama beads on a pegboard. You can use a themed pegboard to make a specific shape, or use one of our more generic shapes (and your imagination) to create your own.

2. Iron your design
On a flat surface, place a sheet of Hama ironing paper over your design. Place the iron on the paper and move it around in smooth, circular movements for a few seconds. You should keep the iron moving the whole time it is in contact with the paper.

3. When to stop ironing

After a few seconds, when the colours of the beads become clearly visible through the paper, remove the iron. Be careful not to overheat the beads or touch the pegboard with the iron, as this will damage the pegs.

IMPORTANT: Ironing must be done by an adult.

TOP TIP: Hama ironing paper has been specifically developed to protect your iron from plastic deposits. Using Hama ironing paper delivers perfect results every time.

4. Let your design cool down
After a few minutes of cooling time, you can remove your design from the pegboard. For the best results, place it under a book until it's completely cool.

TOP TIP: Make sure you're ironing your design at the right temperature setting:

Mini beads – Wool setting♨️ = ●●
Midi beads – Cotton setting ♨️ = ●●
Maxi beads – Linen setting ♨️ = ●●●

Settings may vary between irons, so it's a good idea to test a smaller motif before ironing your masterpiece.

Hama Bead-Tac:

We have all experienced that the beads, for various reasons, fall off the pegboard before they are ironed. It is always a pity when a beautiful bead design is ruined after you have spent time and energy making it. With Hama Bead-Tac the problem is solved. Place the Hama Bead-Tac on the pegboard with the adhesive side facing up. Then add the beads to the pegboard. The beads can be moved around until you have achieved the desired design. The motif is then ironed, and the Hama Bead-Tac can be removed
from the pegboard. Hama Bead-Tac can be used several times.

Usage test of Hama beads:

We have had a laboratory test whether any chemical substances are released from the beads and pegboards when they are ironed. The test was carried out exactly as it would be in a home or institution setting, using a hot iron applied to ironing paper placed on top of the beads until they fused together. A pegboard without beads was tested in the same way. During the tests, the air above the samples was analysed for chemical substances.

The test of the pegboard without beads showed that no chemical substances could be detected. In the test with the beads, very small amounts of the chemical substance pentamethylheptane were detected.

A level of 0.026 mg/kg·h was measured. This means that 1 kg of beads — corresponding to approximately 17,000 beads — would need to be ironed over the course of one hour before 0.026 mg of pentamethylheptane would be released. It is therefore NOT harmful to health to inhale the air or remain in rooms where bead designs are being ironed.

The testing institute that carried out the tests has stated that there is no established exposure limit with an exact numerical value. High concentrations of pentamethylheptane may cause irritation of the mucous membranes.

The test was carried out in 2009. However, during the intervening period, we have not changed or replaced the raw materials used in our beads and pegboards.
